Sugar Experiment

Yesterday the whole room 11 class had a fun time seeing how much sugar our favourite fizzy drinks contained in them, it was fun yet pretty disgusting thinking about thought that we are basically eating the amount of sugar contained. Take coke for example a 1.5 litre coke bottle has 58g of sugar which is equivalent to 14.5 teaspoons, yeah pretty disgusting. So if you love fizzy drinks maybe check the nutrition fact label ( the label on the back that tells you what it has in it and what in contains in it) and make sure that you are making the right decisions because sugar can cause diseases such as obesity and diabetes which are both very serious. Again make sure you think twice about what your eating because those decisions can come back and haunt you. look at this video and see what you are basically doing when drinking a fizzy drink.

What is the message in this clip? The message in this clip is to "never give up" the source of this video is providing us with faith we need to continue our life in the way that yourself would want to, this means to not be a follower and to not change yourself! So what, to fit it in, if you must change yourself for some kids you now your not one of. EVERYONE makes mistakes, if Michael Jordan gave up when he didn't make the team do you think he would be known as on the of the greatest players of all time? NO! (Just a little script that i used to summarise the text)

What is your dream? My dream is to invest in some money and the head to SIS ( Secret Intelligence service) and become an MI6 and serve my country. When i finished serving my time I will become a chef and support my family.

Kiwi Can prize

On Thursday classes room 12 and 11 have been selected as the winners as both scores scored at draw. It will all be a surprise but what we do know is their will be a big feed being prepared for us when our session is about to end. some people think that is not a good ides to have both class conjoin but personally I think it is a great idea as there will be twice the fun. I can not wait until the day comes and sure enough the whole class can't. Last term It was treasure hunt and we used some of the teachers devices that had a QR code reader downloaded on to their phone. My group won but there was no prize for the winning group. So I can not imagine what will be waiting for us in two days. The only thing Miss Tuia told us is that it will involve skateboards and to bring any if we own any skateboards.

Matariki

Next Tuesday 10 selected students from the senior classes are getting the opportunity to go to teoro and learn about Matariki (AKA maori news year the time frame is 25th June- 25th July.) Most students who are selected will inherit a bit of maori ethnicity or people who want to learn more about the maori culture and not score a free day off school. Personally I think this is a great idea because this will make sure that our culture will never be forgotten. If you don't know what tamariki is then here is a brief explanation on how it works, what it is and how it started. What is Matariki? Matariki, a maori name meaning  a special cluster of stars is also known as pleiades. They rise in mid-Winter which represents when Tamariki ( Maori New Years.)
When is Tamariki? Different tribes celebrate this Maori celebration at different time dates as we all have different beliefs about it.

Playdough

Last Thursday the students in room 11 who didn't go to rugby has the ability to make playdough. With the help of our teacher (Miss tupou) helped us make the dough and the consistency. we used the primary colours some of us mixed the primary colours and made secondary colours. my group ( Reece, Dayton, Jayden and myself made a purple and messed up blue. In my opinion the purple playdough was much better because it was fluffy. smooth and fun to play with. It was a fun opportunity to have a playful session with our classmates and i am pretty sure everyone enjoyed.

Senior's Umu

On the 1st of June we had a spectacular Samoan Umu ( a traditional delicacy)with a chocolate cupcakes that were provided from Reece's Mother as it was his Birthday. Majority of our class were selected to either go with Mr Faalili  and prepare the part of the Umu with him, or stay at the school and prepare it with some teachers. The Samoan dish included ingredients  or other islander food were Chop Suey, Pig heads, Crayfish potato salad,Chicken, Lamb chops and Taro. Myself could take weeks to explain what happened and how they prepared or cooked it so you can have a look at some of the photos and videos. It was a great experience when eating this delicious food and I can not wait for more stuff like this.

play based learning

My thoughts about play based learning is very creative, it helps students express their imagination and etc. I think they should keep the setup the same because they are examining how to have fun and enjoy things without electronics.  One thing I would change is more toys and materials as kids can be very picky which can cause the students to become bored, then they will accelerate to the next stage which will be students being whiney and which will start irritating the teachers and that will mean no one will have a good day at school. I think the purpose have this is to get all the negativity out of their system so they can have a positive attitude when learning and attending glen taylor school. Next week could be a more improved session  (I think) if we could do all the things I have listed above because we will be seeing more students having fun and participating in this block. This because everyone likes something new and they will do anything to avoid school work. So therefore they should make this a forever lasting subject so kids will attend school more. This teaches kids not also how to have fun without electronics, but to learn logical things such as; constructions without instructions, thinking by playing games like Jenga and connect 4.
