Next Tuesday 10 selected students from the senior classes are getting the opportunity to go to teoro and learn about Matariki (AKA maori news year the time frame is 25th June- 25th July.) Most students who are selected will inherit a bit of maori ethnicity or people who want to learn more about the maori culture and not score a free day off school. Personally I think this is a great idea because this will make sure that our culture will never be forgotten. If you don't know what tamariki is then here is a brief explanation on how it works, what it is and how it started. What is Matariki? Matariki, a maori name meaning a special cluster of stars is also known as pleiades. They rise in mid-Winter which represents when Tamariki ( Maori New Years.)
When is Tamariki? Different tribes celebrate this Maori celebration at different time dates as we all have different beliefs about it.
